Best Android Smartphones of 2010

The smartphones are on the rise. This year, a whole of movable phone manufacturers are sporting the Android operating principles in their latest releases. This, thanks to the success of the first issue of the Os with the Htc phone "Dream" back in 2008. With the operating principles now ranked fourth among other smartphone Os in terms of global sales, technology pundits are expecting that Android may soon be on top of the list.

In the Us, there is a huge jump in market share for smartphones running Android, from under 5% in the third quarter of 2009 to 28% at the end of the first quarter of 2010. In contrast, sales for the iPhone and other devices with Windows movable Os and Palm's WebOs systems decreased while the same period. Blackberry devices, which run the Rim system, slowed down gaining just 1.3% although still maintaining its leadership in the market.

Sales for Android smartphones is expected to continue to grow exponentially in the coming months. This is due to the fact that handset amelioration behind the Os is robust and relatively faster than that of the iPhone and the Blackberry. The amelioration of new applications for the Android is also growing at a faster rate compared to its competitors. If you are finding to join the bandwagon, here are the top Android smartphones released for 2010.

Google Nexus One

The Android Os is of course backed up by crusade giant Google. It is therefore not surprising for Google to issue its own line of smartphones. Although man-made by Htc, Nexus One is designed and branded by Google. It runs on a 1 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 512 Mb of Ram built-in. It includes 4Gb of Sd memory with a capacity of up to 32 Gb. The 3.7" touch screen is wider than most phones in its class. It also includes a 5-megapixel camera. Among the features of Nexus One are voicemail transcriptions and Gps pilotage via Google Maps with audible directions.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

The Xperia X10 is the first Android unit for Sony Ericsson. It also runs on a 1 Ghz Snapdragon processor but is petite to 384 Mb of Ram. It has a generous microSd memory of 8 Gb, upgradeable to 16 Gb. True to form with regards to Sony Ericsson's adherence to developing camera phones, what excels for the Xperia X10 is its 8.1 megapixel camera with flash and video light. Even more, Sony Ericsson's smile detection technology allows you to setup the Xperia to automatically snap a photograph when your subjects smile.

Motorola Backflip

Known for their innovative design, Motorola again came up with a device that would have consumers flipping over in delight. The Motorola Backflip was released for the At&T network and is the only unit with a full Qwerty keypad on the reverse side of the screen when the device is folded. Loaded with a 5 megapixel camera, the Backflip presents a unique choice for consumers. One downside to the Backflip is that At&T has blocked non-market apps, which is perceived to be a move that would undermine the expandability of what the phone can do. Preinstalled in the device is Motorola's Motoblur which integrates a person's updates and messages from various public networking sites into a particular streaming feed.

Htc Desire, Legend and Droid Incredible

Taiwan's Htc is arguably the prominent builder of movable devices geared towards the Android operating system. For 2010, Htc already released the Desire, Legend and the Droid Incredible. Htc Legend works on a 600 Mhz processor and 384 Mb of Ram, which are lower specs compared to the Desire and the Droid Incredible. The Desire has a slightly larger touch screen at 3.7". The Droid expected boasts of an 8 megapixel camera.

More smartphones are expected to be released in the last two quarters of 2010. As citizen eagerly await the issue of the next generation of iPhones from Apple, Android-based devices are already in the pipeline with such Htc phones as the Evo 4G to be released by June 2010 and the Htc Wildfire set to be out in the market by the 3rd quarter of the year. Expect even more Androids to invade tech market soon!

The Three Most beloved Android Sprint Phones

The newest Sprint Android to face is the Nexus 4G. This 'pure Google' phone is a promising expanding to the Sprint line up of eleven Android devices. The Nexus is growing in popularity as the best Sprint Android. The presuppose for this is the Nexus comes preloaded with Gingerbread (Android 2.3 Operating principles - the newest to date) and has 4G connectivity. You might be wondering what is a 'pure Android' phone. It is simply an Android phone that does not have a found interface overlay. The advantage of not having a found interface running on top of the Android platform is that the phone can get immediate upgrades to the newest Android Operating principles versions. In the case of phones with found overlays, the found has to reprogram the overlay to adjust to the new Android version. Many users prefer the 'pure Android' interface from a visual and ease of use point of view. For extreme users that like to custom Rom their phones so that they can install unofficial updates, apps, and customize their phones, the 'pure Google' is easier to hack. The Nexus comes with a 1 Ghz Hummingbird processor, WiFi hot spot capabilities for up to five devices, 4 inch display, front facing Vga camera and a rear 5 megapixel camera and 16 Gb of internal storage.

The Htc Evo 4G is the best contender for the top Sprint Android position, with its closes competitors being the Nexus (mentioned above) and the Samsung Epic 4G. The Evo has a slightly larger Wvga display at 4.3 inches (800 x 480 pixel resolution). This makes viewing web pages a zephyr due to the impressive screen size and sharp clarity of the display. It sports both the front facing 1.3 Vga megapixel camera for video calling and an 8 megapixel rear camera. The rear camera takes perfect pictures and has Hd video capabilities. If the camera is an foremost feature for you, take a look at this phone. The Evo makes use of the Sense user interface, which works well and has the Leap feature that allows you to pinch everywhere on the screen to view all open programs. Like the Nexus and Epic the Evo runs on Sprint's 4G network, which has good download speeds though is not available in all cosmopolitan areas. This phone has picked up some annotation with regard to battery life, however, I think that it is fair to say that all the smart phones, and particularly the ones running on 4G, have battery issues. This will really be the next feature for developers to tackle. For some this phone is on the large size being 4.8 inches tall, 2.6 inches wide and 0.5 inches thick.

The third flagship Android for Sprint is the Samsung Epic 4G. The phone comes with an perfect Super Amoled screen, 1 Ghz processor, front facing Vga front facing camera, a five megapixel rear camera with Led flash and supports Sprint's 4G WiMax network. Perhaps the best feature of this phone is the large slide out physical Qwerty keyboard. If you text message and email frequently, this might be a good selection as the phone has fairly similar options to the above two phones and an perfect keyboard. The biggest downside to the Epic and the Evo is that the phone comes with Android 2.1 operating principles installed, with no current valid updates. However, you are able to load Gingerbread (Android 2.3) if you custom Rom your gismo and download an unofficial version.

An Apple Fanboy's First Day With an Android gadget

With the iPhone, began a revolution for the smartphone era. With the iPhone 3G being my first ever smart phone, I had come to be used to the simplicity of the streamlined iPhone Os. Like the many other iPhone users out there, I too had come to be an Apple fanboy. I had come to be fulfilled, off to any other options, and with the arrival of the first Android phone, I had taken my side in the war between Apple and Google.

As someone who has always loved technology, and after months of arguing with my colleague Tristan Thomas about which operating theory is better, I've decided to break down my barriers, and ditch my iPhone for a month in order to try the new "iPhone Killer," Sprint's Htc Evo 4G.
It's been one day so far, and here are my thoughts thus far:

Speed

The Evo 4G and it's 1Ghz Snapdragon processor is certainly fast. In fact, I look send to seeing how Apple's new 1Ghz A4 chip feels in comparison on the new iPhone 4.

Browser

As a competitor to the iPhone, I think Google has done a great job of improving their browser from when they initially launched. Although I prefer Apple's Safari browser, the implementation of Adobe Flash is genuinely an improvement that I think Apple should reconsider.

Marketplace and Applications

Unfortunately, the marketplace is a bit more confusing than the App Store in terms of seeing what you want.

The applications are what you would expect of a competitor. However, in the gaming department, they are lacking. The only issue that I've seen with applications in the Android Os is that, after an exertion at downloading one of their games, it required that I pressed "Up" for it to work. The only qoute with that is, I don't have a corporal keyboard, and that concerns me.

Display

The Evo 4G's 4.3" screen is one of the most gorgeous screens that I have yet to see on such a small device. It's resolution is sharp, clear, vibrant, and the most large screen to date. It may even make for a great exchange for my Hdtv! Not really, but with this new benchmark placed for mobile devices, it's quite possible that may one day be the case.

Size

Because of the Evo 4G's screen size, the device itself is too large. I find issue typing on the keyboard, and even putting the device to sleep with my index finger because there are no other buttons other than the one at the top to wake the phone from sleep. It also does not feel as comfortable as my iPhone in my pocket.

Software Keyboard

Quite frankly, it sucks. I understand that adjustments need to be made, and that these things take time to get used to, however it did not take long for me to get used to the iPhone's keyboard when first introduced. Cut, copy, and paste, isn't genuinely as easy as I had hoped it to be. Neither was challenging the cursor between letters, numbers, etc. Where we have the small magnifying glass for that, Android does not. With Android's touch to slide for numbers and accents, and pressing of a button to take off the keyboard, it's genuinely something that I'm not going to be seeing send to these next few weeks.

Battery

Though I have not yet put the battery to test, it seems to be just as good as my iPhone 3G's based on how swiftly it drained with all of the usage.

Overall

The Evo 4G and Android certainly peaks my interest, and I'm glad that I've decided to try it out. So far, I feel Apple's iPhone interface is certainly more streamlined, but Android is going in the right direction. There are certainly some new features that I favor, such as widgets, complete integration with Google, stored notifications, and Flash. However, what I don't like is the inability to make calls and use data simultaneously, though that's merely a Cdma network fault. I am also involved with application compatibility as aforementioned, as well as being able to understand my phone by the end of the 30 day duration.

Forgive me if I came off a small biased. Possibly my perspective will convert with extended use of the Evo.

I'll be pre-ordering the iPhone 4 June 15th, expect another record in 30 days. In it,  my decision will be made on whether or not to keep this phone after trying out the new iPhone 4 for about 15 days, halfway through my 30 days of having the Evo 4G.
